We can constantly make plans to make sure we get where we are going. However, all of your plans mean nothing, if God does not have your ear and heart. We so often think of prayer of us saying things to God, but really it must be two-way communication between He and us. If He does not have both our ear and heart, all of our plans will come to nothing.

You see, our plans mean nothing if they are not an answer to the question “God what are you saying?” so that our plans can become those next steps He has ordered.
Simultaneously, I know people who spend a whole lot of time seeking the will of God, praying and yet, nothing in their life shows any kind of plan. They stay stuck in the same ruts, routine, and sin. Their life rarely has an impact on eternity or anyone else’s life
When God speaks, it should be life changing first for us, then that change should continue until it has an effect on someone near us here and now and ultimately into eternity. That’s why the next question is “What am I going to do about it?” When we hear it forces us to plan and the plan causes us to follow-through.
